New Zealand cruised to semi-finals after committing another upset, New Zealand vs South Africa, 3rd Quarter-Final, Mirpur, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, March 25, 2011
Another upset with South Africa in World Cup tournaments ensued, another hot favorite team excluded. New Zealand managed 221 on good batting surface and it was apparently easy for Proteas having burly batting lineup, South Africa side was cruising at 108 for 2 in halfway mark of their innings when Jacques Kallis fell and were all bowled out for 64 runs. New Zealand gripped them in high pressure and restricted them within 172 runs in 44th over. Jacob Oram titled with Player of Match played a vital character regarding disciplined bowling and terrific fielding.
South Africa attacked with spin and pace while New Zealand opened their batting, jumbled up their bowlers regularly like a pack of cards, and shoved on the field to keep a tight bridle on New Zealand. Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor were at the forefront of revitalization from the depths of 16 for 2 but their leaving in quick succession left New Zealand messing up towards a below-par total on a slow track.
