Sub-continent team, this time is India, crushed Australia and booked a place at Mohali for nerve thrilling Semi-Final with their archery rival Pakistan on 30th March. A stand-out hundred of Ricky Ponting astonished whereas Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir notched up enchanting fifties but Yuvraj Singh propelled India to another great encounter at Mohali. Spare contemplation for the Australian skipper, possibly playing his last World Cup match and to Australia, who were last eliminated before the finals of a World Cup way back in 1992.
The pitch was dry in Ahmedabad, India hinged on their spinning tactics, and Australia were driven by Brad Haddin, who oscillated between vital nudges and intended risks, and the contest hung in balance at the half-way mark. Australia had the advantage but Haddin's dismissal in the 23rd over, brought India back into the game. Australian Captain, Ponting, who was under critics regarding his form, probably clinched his last century of World Cup tournaments but his blistering hundred went into hollow when Yuvraj spanked Shaun Tait for a stunning four over backward point in the final ball of the 39th over, the next over expensive-one proved to be the game-breaker as Brett Lee was conceded 14 runs and no Aussies bowler could succeed in the breaking of an unbeaten partnership between Yuvraj and Raina, Yuvraj snatched a famous win from defending champions Australia.
