Upul Tharanga passed his hundred with the emphatic boundary as he and Tillakaratne Dilshan sealed an blistering triumph, Sri Lanka vs England, 4th Quarter-Final, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Colombo, March 26 2011
Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga twin hundreds set an emphatic win over chaotic England to guide to their home semi-final with New Zealand on 29th March. Setting a testing total of 229 at the Premadasa Stadium by visitors, Sri Lankan openers set about proving that history is malarkey as they sauntered to victory of 10 wickets with 63 balls to spare. Only eight times in forty nine 50-over format internationals contests at the venue had a team batting second chased 230 or more for triumph.
Such was Sri Lanka's supremacy that the match was able to finish in absurdly contrived scenes, as Dilshan, who had already reached his landmark of hundred cut for four off Graeme Swann - set about steering his partner to his own hundred. With seven runs still needed and Tharanga on 98, Dilshan fortuitously carved Swann clean through the covers, and was scowling his apologies before the ball had crossed the rope. Dilshan responded with two of the most overstated forward defenses he has ever played, Tharanga finished the game three balls into Chris Tremlett's following over, with a flat-footed swipe through the off-side.
The statistics described an apologetic tale for England. They managed only 12 fours in the whole of their 50 over quota, two of which were scored by Jonathan Trott, whose 86 from 115 balls was his fifth half-century in his seven innings, as he became the first batsman to pass 400 runs in this World Cup tournament. Eoin Morgan provided some impulsion with a 55-ball 50, but the batting Power-play once again cracked their momentum, as they were restricted to 23 runs and two vital wickets in their five over of fielding restrictions. Sri Lanka by contrast thumped 22 fours and three sixes in less than 40 over.

New Zealand cruised to semi-finals after committing another upset, New Zealand vs South Africa, 3rd Quarter-Final, Mirpur, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, March 25, 2011
Another upset with South Africa in World Cup tournaments ensued, another hot favorite team excluded. New Zealand managed 221 on good batting surface and it was apparently easy for Proteas having burly batting lineup, South Africa side was cruising at 108 for 2 in halfway mark of their innings when Jacques Kallis fell and were all bowled out for 64 runs. New Zealand gripped them in high pressure and restricted them within 172 runs in 44th over. Jacob Oram titled with Player of Match played a vital character regarding disciplined bowling and terrific fielding.
South Africa attacked with spin and pace while New Zealand opened their batting, jumbled up their bowlers regularly like a pack of cards, and shoved on the field to keep a tight bridle on New Zealand. Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor were at the forefront of revitalization from the depths of 16 for 2 but their leaving in quick succession left New Zealand messing up towards a below-par total on a slow track.

TV umpire:        RA Kettleborough (England)

Yuvraj Singh is euphoric after hitting a boundary, India vs Australia, 2nd quarter-final, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Ahmedabad, March 24, 2011
Sub-continent team, this time is India, crushed Australia and booked a place at Mohali for nerve thrilling Semi-Final with their archery rival Pakistan on 30th March. A stand-out hundred of Ricky Ponting astonished whereas Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir notched up enchanting fifties but Yuvraj Singh propelled India to another great encounter at Mohali. Spare contemplation for the Australian skipper, possibly playing his last World Cup match and to Australia, who were last eliminated before the finals of a World Cup way back in 1992.
Ricky Ponting got his last century of World Cup tournaments in 118 balls, India vs Australia, 2nd quarter-final, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Ahmedabad, March 24, 2011The pitch was dry in Ahmedabad, India hinged on their spinning tactics, and Australia were driven by Brad Haddin, who oscillated between vital nudges and intended risks, and the contest hung in balance at the half-way mark. Australia had the advantage but Haddin's dismissal in the 23rd over, brought India back into the game. Australian Captain, Ponting, who was under critics regarding his form, probably clinched his last century of World Cup tournaments but his blistering hundred went into hollow when Yuvraj spanked Shaun Tait for a stunning four over backward point in the final ball of the 39th over, the next over expensive-one proved to be the game-breaker as Brett Lee was conceded 14 runs and no Aussies bowler could succeed in the breaking of an unbeaten partnership between Yuvraj and Raina, Yuvraj snatched a famous win from defending champions Australia.
