South African wicketkeeper batsman AB de Villiers scored his second World Cup hundred which is the fastest on by any South African in a World Cup and 10th in his one-day International career for chasing 223 at Delhi, He was unbeaten in this match which resulted a triumph in the 43rd over for the loss of only three wickets. AB De Villiers who was titled with ODI Player of the Year in 2010 shared a 119-runs partnership for the third wicket with his skipper Graeme Smith and adding 84 more runs with JP Duminy which was unbeaten as they maintained their reputation of triumphs.
South Africa's batsmen built upon the high-quality work of their bowlers as Imran Tahir had a debut to remember, picking up four wickets and striking at crucial moments to dowel West Indies back on a pitch that displayed none of the demons that led to the desertion of the last international game at this ground in December 2009.
