Shahid Afridi made a number of appeals for lbw during his 5 for 16 spell, Kenya v Pakistan, World Cup, Group A, Hambantota
Kenya crushed by Pakistan at Hambantota this time, as Kenya bowled out at 112 in 33.1 over chasing a colossal target 318 which Pakistan set after batting first when they won the toss and opted batting for their opening World Cup campaign. Collins Obuya's 47 being the only highlight for them as Shahid Afridi assisted himself to 5 for 16 in a massive 205-run win, Pakistan's biggest win in World Cup tournaments and the eighth largest overall.
Umar Akmal cracks the ball square on the off side, Kenya v Pakistan, World Cup, Group A, HambantotaFour of Pakistan's batsmen achieved half century marks and set up a total of 317 for 7 after a brief shake against the new ball and Kenya made little attempt to rise a serious challenge in their chase, rather looking to a lay a solid platform in the hope of batting out their full quota of over. That ultimately proved a useless attempt, too, although their innings did at least last until the 34th over - longer than their intact match against New Zealand three days ago.
Kenya's glide embarked on in solemn when Afridi brought himself on and, in his third over, enticed Steve Tikolo down the pitch only for the ball to rush straight on to clatter the stumps. Kenya were 73 for 3 in the 23rd over when Tikolo was dismissed, without any actual hope of chasing more than 300 but at least looking stable enough to last the full 50 after the top order had showed at least a little gravel. There was no such contribution from the middle, however, as the remaining seven wickets fell for just 39 runs in just over ten over. Pakistan will play their second match with Sri Lanka on 26th February at Colombo.
