Two warm – up World Cup matches were played on different venues on 16th February,
England won by 16 runs,
England won the toss and selected to bat at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah,
243/10 (49.4 over) | 227/10 (46.1 over)
M Prior | 78(80) | R Cheema | 93(71)
K Chohan | 3/34 (9 over) | S Broad | 5/37(8.1 over) |
Rizwan Cheema gave England a massive jolt in their opening World Cup warm-up match against Canada, as he blazed 93 from 70 balls at No. 7 to give life to an irresolute run-chase at Fatullah and hoisted the very real prospect of an embarrassing upset. However, five wickets for Stuart Broad on his return to spirited action enabled England to defend their middling total of 243 regardless of being outgunned on the boundary count. Blistering knoch from England 28 for 5 inside the eighth over, Canada challenge finally ended on 227, with 23 balls left unused.
2 – India vs New Zealand
India won by 117 runs (with 5 balls remaining),
India won the toss and went for to bat at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai,
360/5 (50 over) | 243/10 (43.1 over)
M Dhoni | 108*(64) | B McCullum | 58(54)
T Southee | 2/67 (10 over) | Harbhajan Singh | 2/17 (4 over) |
India has done a blistering win against struggling New Zealand, they pilled up a huge total of 360 against New Zealand despite the failures of little master Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, two players who mounted a century partnership to set the base before MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina, two batsmen, delighted their fans with atrocious hitting that was frenzied even by T20 standards. Furthermore final 16 overs brought a 193 runs to demoralize a rusty New Zealand outfit, which are beat by 117 runs.
