In a potential blow for rusty Zimbabwe, Ed Rainsford bowler has been ruled out of the World Cup Zimbabwe side due to an ankle injury and Tinashe Panyangara has been announced as his replacement. Rainsford, who has played 39 50-over games and 2 T20 matches, is the third player in Zimbabwe side to be ruled out of the World Cup after two players' batsman Tino Mawoyo and allrounder Sean Ervine.
Panyangara, who is yet to play a World Cup match, bowled the Zimbabwe U19 side to victory against Australia during 2003-04 World Cup sessions and soon after, was indulged into the national side during the rebel crisis. He made his international debut in 2004 and suffered a stress fracture of the back, missed one year of cricket. He played last in 2005 for the national team; he played 3 5-day games and 23 50-over match. Rainsford is the eighth one to be ruled out of World Cup after Zimbabwean Mawoyo, Ervine, Aussies Nathan Hauritz and Michael Hussey, Praveen Kumar from Indian side, English Eoin Morgan and Sohail Tanveer from Pakistan side.
