What an exhilarating finale in Bangalore, England tied with India in their group match, English skipper Andrew Strauss produced a stunning inspiration for his side, He made astonishing 158 from 145 balls and won the title of Player of Match. Scored by the captain 158 is the highest score by an English batsman so far in World Cup history as he made a base for his team to tie a game. A brilliant knock 120 by Little Master Sachin Tendulkar was also unforgettable.
England was 280 for 2 in 43rd over and they are pushing themselves towards a significant victory, but a reverse swinging magical spell produced by Zaheer Khan turned the silenced Chinnaswamy audience to growl as he took two wickets of set batsmen Ian Bell & Andrew Strauss into two balls, India seemed to back into contest. However a few sixes from England bowlers hauled them back from the brink and they required two runs from the final delivery of their innings, Graeme Swann drilled Munaf Patel to cover to salvage a share of the spoils.
From the first over of the match, in which Virender Sehwag might have been dismissed three times in five balls, through the extravagant stroke play of first Tendulkar and later Strauss, and on through a pair of batting collapses - one respectively for the lower order of both teams - there was hardly a moment in which normal service was allowed. Tim Bresnan, with 5 for 48 in ten over allocated quota, was the unsung star of a day that be worthy of to be remembered as the finest World Cup contest since that semi-final in 1999.
